Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, the New Name for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

A landmark new paper published in The Lancet announces the renaming of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), reflecting a broader and more accurate understanding of the condition. Developed through an extensive global consensus process involving clinicians, researchers, and people living with PCOS, the new terminology aims to reduce stigma, improve diagnosis and care, and better represent the complex endocrine and metabolic features of the syndrome.
